Announcing: A New Service offering
Introducing Sussex Energy’s
“Energy Procurement Services”
Cost Savings and Predictability for Businesses
Sussex Energy is proud to expand our offerings with our new energy supply procurement services, complementing our expertise as a solar developer. This new service is to assist businesses in lowering their energy costs and achieving greater predictability in their utility expenses, whether or not a solar investment is feasible. Below is an overview of what these services entail, the strategic benefits, and how Sussex Energy provides value through a transparent and streamlined process.
Understanding Energy Bills and Deregulated Markets
Electricity and natural gas bills are typically itemized into demand charges, customer charges, and volumetric supply and delivery charges on your bill. In many cases, supply charges are the highest cost line item. While utility companies like Eversource or Edison often act as the supplier, many states in the U.S. have deregulated energy markets, where medium and large-scale energy consumers can seek competitive bids from third-party energy suppliers for this portion of their expenses.
This means that instead of relying solely on the utility company, businesses can solicit multiple third parties opt for fixed or variable-rate contracts with term lengths ranging from 6 to 60 months, from third-party suppliers such as Constellation Energy or Engie Energy. These contracts often provide rates that are either more competitive, more predictable, or both.

Why It Makes Sense for Your Business
For businesses seeking lower electricity costs, and if a site or business has been deemed unsuitable for a solar investment during Sussex Energy’s due diligence process, seeking a more competitive electricity supplier is an alternative route to achieving cost savings and predictability. The same can be done with natural gas bills, which are not easily improved through other means. Switching suppliers involves no capital expenditure and is a rather quick and simple process.
An energy supply contract can also complement new or existing solar investments, and Sussex Energy’s expertise in both will ensure that the two solutions are working in alignment.
The Process
We conduct a straightforward evaluation designed to secure the best rates and terms for your business. The process begins with data collection. Sussex Energy will request the latest utility bill for each of your business’s meters, along with a simple Letter of Authorization (LOA). The LOA allows us to retrieve recent usage and interval data directly from your utility company, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Once the necessary data is gathered, we proceed with market analysis. Using the collected information, Sussex Energy solicits custom pricing from all major suppliers that service your location. This step typically takes between 1 to 10 business days, depending on your state and the complexity of the market.
After receiving the pricing from suppliers, we move to pricing evaluation. All available offers are presented to you, with a focus on highlighting those that provide the best pricing and terms. These offers are “spot” prices, which are valid for only one day and are influenced by market conditions beyond our control.
Finally, when your business selects the preferred option, we proceed to contract execution. On the day of selection, we request a refreshed spot price from the supplier, ensuring it reflects the latest market conditions. An agreement is then generated, which must be approved and signed before the market closes for that day. Once completed, your business will have a new energy supplier with pricing and term lengths tailored to your needs.
